Amphawa Floating Market seems to be frequented more by
the locals than foreigners so if you prefer to go somewhere less
touristy, this is the market to visit. The council of Amphawa and the
residents are said to be working together to preserve this community
living alongside the water so as to retain that very 'local touch'
atmosphere to it.
Thailand has a number of floating markets that has always fascinated tourists but this is one floating market where you will be able to witness that unique scene where Buddhist Monks seek alms from the boats early in the mornings when it is peaceful and serene.
Even though floating market is a fascination to tourists, the locals do not have the same fascination - maybe because it is a part of their everyday life. At Amphawa though, you will see more locals than tourists but nevertheless it can still get very crowded particularly so on the weekends.
This market is located by the canal near Wat Amphawan Chetiyaram and is open for business every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Friday being the slightly less crowded day to go. Unlike other floating markets, vendors on boats here only start selling mid-day, making it a perfect place to visit if you miss the early morning markets or you are simply not an early riser.
You will see old-style living and vendors on the boat cooking and selling traditional Thai food by the riverside - fresh seafood, rice or even noodles like Pad Thai or Pad See Ewe as ordered by customers are cooked on the spot, beautiful homemade food and pastries, fruits and vegetables, flowers etc ...
You can also find vendors selling chili powder, herbs and spices, groceries and all sorts of local desserts. You will definitely feel spoil by all the choices available.
Beverages like iced black coffee or the hot white Thai coffee where
condensed milk is added, making it sweet, tasty and creamy or desserts
like mango and sticky rice and the list goes on and on ...
When this place comes to life in the evening, you will want to sharpen your photography skills and capture the picturesque scene in your camera.
Amphawa Floating Market is a good place to go to for a slightly more laid back atmosphere to relax and enjoy the free flowing music, smell the aroma of food cooking and sample the different variety of Thai food by the riverside.
