Well ... Starting a food club and cooking at home is definitely cheaper than eating out! Besides, you will have more fun with your friends too.
You can say that Thai food was a bond between us or maybe it is because we do so enjoy sharing great meals and wines together.
Picture this ....
Six friends decided to catch up for a dinner at a restaurant.
There were lots of eating, drinking, laughing and chattering.
We however had to fight to hear ourselves at the restaurant so Joyce invited us all back to her place for coffee.
Ahhhhh.... Peace and quiet at last ... simply lovely ...
We enjoyed ourselves so much, we decided we have to meet up again for another meal but please can it be home cook food with that same cozy ambience?
--light bulb moment --
Why don't we start a food club?
And that my friends, was the beginning of "The Makan Club"
And that my friends, was 5 or 6 years ago now!
And I am pleased to say that we are still going strong!
Sharing such great times, great meals, great wines, great company gives us all the sensation of being on holidays and feeling relax from the comfort of your own home.
When we first started, it was all higgildy-piggildy.
We would sometimes meet very often and then don't meet up for months.
As times goes by, we became more structured -- lol! Usually the hosting family can invite their guests.
Each family would bring a dish and/or desert for six to eight people.
Each family would bring a bottle of wine that goes well with the dish - what a great way for us to combine our love of food with our appreciation of wine.
Of course, I would tease my friends by getting them to 'blind-taste' the wines.
No pressure there -- just wanting to see if it would make any difference giving them a bottle of $5 instead of $50 -- lol!
Then we decided to go international and turn our Makan Club into a World Food Club!
We would meet once about every 2 months.
Each time we meet, we would pick a different country and put together a meal around native favorites.
Now We have decided to throw in a theme for the night as well. So, click on the links below for the photos relating to the theme for the night:
--- Thai Food Night, Noodles Night, Malaysian Food Night, Hawker Food Night, Rolls Night, Finger Food and the list goes on.
